As we all know, a healthy and sustainable relationship with food starts early. And cultivating that relationship among the students of Madison County’s schools is something that the Goshen Market Foundation has made a top priority.
Partnering with Land of Goshen Community Market farmers as well as passionate teachers and members of our local community, in 2018 we launched the Farm to School Program with a pilot at District 7’s Lincoln Middle School. Students have the opportunity to learn how to grow, prepare, and eat food they’ve grown themselves in their after-school garden club.
Teachers at the school integrate the garden into their courses, and we also hosted our first professional development event for teachers in 2019 to help them think of new and exciting ways to help kids get their hands dirty while learning where their food comes from. Stay tuned as the Foundation has big expansion plans in the near future!
